If you give a person a fish, you feed them for a day; if you teach a person to fish, you feed them for the rest of their life.

Modeling
The topic of 'Modeling' is the heart of NLP. The founders developed a process that made it possible to copy the best communication strategies from world-class communicators and thus learn simply and quickly from these brilliant people. This process is called Modeling of Excellence. It is about identifying peak performances and making them available for oneself or for others.
In this lesson, I will introduce you to Robert Dilts' modeling strategy. Robert Dilts is one of the most significant co-developers of NLP and the author of numerous foundational works on NLP.
Exercise for this week
- Determine skill: Identify the desired skill or ability to be modeled, as well as the person(s) who possess this ability.
- Collect examples: Create a situation or context in which you receive at least three different specific examples from the people you want to model, showing how they demonstrate the desired skill.
a) Identify the critical factors in each example using the following perceptual filters:- Access cues
- Language patterns – Meta-Model, predicates, etc.
- Physiology
- Representational systems, strategies, and submodalities
- Meta-program patterns
- Beliefs and values
- Logical levels
- Find counterexample: Find at least one counterexample – i.e., another person or other people (including yourself) who are unable to demonstrate the skill appropriately, or situations in which the model was unable to demonstrate the skill appropriately. Identify the critical factors of the counterexample using the same filters as in step 2a.
- Comparison: Compare the critical factors in the three successful examples with the critical factors in the counterexample(s). Pay attention to the significant differences.
- Adjustment: Change all significant critical factors of the counterexample so that they correspond to the significant critical factors of the successful examples until you achieve the desired behavior or results in the individuals or situations.
If changing these factors does not lead to the desired outcome, find other more suitable or stronger examples to model and repeat the process from step 4 until the desired behavior or outcome is achieved. - Change factors: Now begin to change the critical factors that contributed to achieving the desired behavior or outcome, one by one.
a) Find the limit by determining how far you can change the factor before it changes the outcome.
b) Principle of elegance: Find the minimum number of factors necessary to achieve the desired behavior or results.
Not quite easy! Admittedly, there is a lot of NLP involved here. The modeling process is covered in detail in the NLP Master Training. It is a crucial tool for our lives because it allows us to learn at an unprecedented speed. It is worth your while to delve deeper into it.

Metaphor of the Week
Water Droplets
A single drop of water splashed from the depths of a spring and fell into the water of a small stream. This merged with a brook, which in turn flowed into a river. The river eventually flowed into the sea – and the sea became part of the ocean.
The drop of water knew nothing of its destination. It only knew – like millions of other drops of water – that their path would be the same, even if each drop would take it in its own way. This commonality connected it with the others and distinguished it at the same time.
One day, the drop of water began to ponder. "What am I actually useful for?" it asked itself. "And when will I reach my destination?"
It posed its question to a trout swimming in the river. The trout smiled and said:
"You are at your destination when you are no longer a drop of water."
"And when will that be?" asked the drop further.
"You will feel it," replied the trout. "Stronger than the salt in the water of the ocean. It will free you – and at the same time, you will no longer be yourself."
"What will I then be?" wanted to know the drop of water.
"You might become a cloud," said the trout, "if many like you want to become a cloud. Or you will become ice if many like you want to become ice."
"How will I know if others want what I want?" asked the little drop again.
"Mhm," pondered the trout. "You will notice when the time comes. Until then, don't worry. Just let it flow – down the mountain, through the valley. God has given us this path, and He will surely not make it a second time."
The water droplet let itself drift and thought:
“Who is actually God? Where can I find him? … Or isn’t every single water droplet a God?”
Book Recommendation
Modeling with NLP. The training manual for the NLP modeling process
Author: Robert B. Dilts
Short Description:
This book is about the NLP modeling process and its application
to the study of successful leadership skills.
The first part of this book is dedicated to the definition of the principles and tools that are necessary for successful modeling. The second part focuses on the application of NLP modeling techniques. Examples are provided of how NLP has been applied, to identify specific cognitive, linguistic, and behavior-specific skills used by leaders to master challenging situations.
Enjoy this exploratory journey into the skills that will help create our desired future.
