Meta-Program: proactive – reactive

If you address someone in the right way, you can achieve anything. If you address someone in the wrong way, you achieve nothing. Meta-Programs help us address someone in the right way. They are internal programs that determine how each individual processes information and motivates themselves. Knowledge of Meta-Programs helps us build rapport with others more easily by mirroring their Meta-Programs. For personal developers and managers, Meta-Programs provide the opportunity to better assess employees and applicants and align them with the existing team. Additionally, they expand one's own personality by increasing our flexibility.

There are over 30 Meta-Programs. A few of them are particularly important. In this first stage, I would like to introduce one of them and give you smaller exercises related to it.

Meta-Program: proactive - reactive

Description of the types:
Do you know people who like to take the initiative? – Who tend to jump into situations and act – without thinking for long? – Those are proactive people. The opposite type is a person who waits and analyzes calmly. They tend to not act due to overthinking. They believe in luck and fate and spend a lot of time waiting. They react more than they act.

Language patterns: How do these two types speak?
Proactive: Get started! Just do it... Why wait? – right now ... Take the initiative.... Take control....
Reactive: Let's think about it... Consider... Think about your reaction... Wait and drink tea...

Professional suitability:
Proactive people are suitable for tasks that require taking the initiative, performing work, and completing it. They are also suitable for sales and self-employed activities.
People with a reactive pattern are well-suited for tasks where they can respond to inquiries. Customer service employees are usually reactive. For many activities that require research and analysis, individuals are needed who can spend a lot of time evaluating data.

Pause for a moment and think: Who do you know that is extremely proactive? And who is extremely reactive? How would you assess yourself?

Exercise for this week

Recognize the type!

a) Just calm down, I will first observe the market and when we are ready for a mature and considered decision, I will get back to you.
b) But come on. We want to get to the top. We need to step on the gas.
c) Why wait – always forward!
d) Good things take time. In calmness lies strength.

Recognize the type and then respond with a statement that pacifies the respective type and with a statement that does not pacify the type.

Example:
Let's first wait for further developments and then we can analyze this in detail at our leisure.

Meta-Program: reactive
Match (Pacing statement): The development will soon be ready, our team has been analyzing this problem for years. Believe me, the time is ripe.
Mismatch (Non-Pacing statement): Analyze? Now get started already. Why do you want to wait any longer?

a) Let's get started! Nothing comes from nothing. We have to take this risk.
b) Every company must carefully keep an eye on competitors, collect data, and then wait for the right moment to launch a new product.

Metaphor of the Week

The malicious gossip
A neighbor had spoken badly about Künzelmann, and the rumors had reached Künzelmann. Künzelmann confronted the neighbor. "I will definitely not do it again," promised the neighbor. "I take back everything I said about you." Künzelmann looked seriously at the other. "I have no reason not to forgive you," he replied. "However, every evil deed requires atonement." ...
