Diamond Technique (2)

Just last week, you engaged with the Diamond Technique. You learned that problems with this technique are not only solved but literally dissolved. This is achieved by changing the underlying structure into which the problem and the respective solution were previously embedded. The result is often astonishingly rapid changes that are both profound and sustainable. The advantage of this technique lies in its concrete applicability and in imparting a practical competence.

Today's exercise builds on last week's, where you shaped the 'diamond'. This means, take the sheet from last week (you surely kept it?), paper, and a pen, or do the exercise on the computer.

Exercise for this week

  1. Deepening the four points:
Now ask yourself for each of the four points you worked on last week:
    – What does this enable?
    – What does this prevent?
Go through the points one by one and write down the results in bullet points for each respective point.
  2. Looking back at the original problem:
Then turn your attention back to the original problem.
As in last week's exercise, it will often be the case that both the problem and its opposite are now judged completely anew. Then it may sometimes be sensible to start again with a basic diamond using the new perspective of the problem and a new opposite. In many cases, however, this is no longer necessary. For often, a problem resolution will have occurred. You already know the typical signs of this.

Metaphor of the Week
The Local and the Tourist

Once upon a time in a small fishing village somewhere in Italy. A tourist passed by and saw a man sitting calmly on the harbor quay, looking out at the sea.

The tourist approached the man and said: 'Excuse me, I would like to ask you something: Why aren't you working? You could buy a fishing boat, for example, and go out to sea.'

'But why should I work?' asked the man. 'I have everything I need – enough to live on and I am content.'

'But if you worked, you could earn a lot of money, save it, and invest it profitably,' said the tourist.

'Why,' asked the man, 'should I earn money and save it?'

'If you earn well, you can live off the interest and then you won't have to work anymore!'

The man looked at the tourist and slowly shook his head. Then his gaze returned to the sea.

Book Recommendation

The Victory over the Dragon
Author: Michael Hall

Short Description:
This book describes how you can move away from your 'dragon states' such as anger, fear, and anxiety, and towards lasting states of happiness. It works!

What do you need when you enter a dragon state such as anger, fear, anxiety, negativity, fatigue, sadness, or discouragement? You need a model to understand the experience of the dragon state. Why do I feel this way? When do I feel this way, what leads me to think, feel, and behave as I do?

Your state determines your level of effectiveness, your sense of happiness and your access to your own abilities. The intention of this book is to develop the knowledge, skills, and strengths to handle your states powerfully, in order to create lasting states of happiness.
