Praline Pattern

In this lesson, you will find a small pattern that is excellent for motivating yourself for tasks that you actually do not like to do – but that still need to be done. Think for a moment: Which tasks do you regularly put off, even though they are necessary? For example, ironing, washing dishes, or doing your tax return.

Exercise for this week

  1. Create a picture of something that tempts and motivates you very much – for example, delicious pralines. (You should experience this image in an associated way.)
  2. Now create a picture of yourself doing the unpleasant task. (This image should be dissociated.)
  3. Overlay the task image with the motivation image and make a small hole in the middle of the task image so that you can see the motivation image behind it through this hole.
  4. Enlarge the hole enough to create a certain temptation. Then reduce it again, but keep the good feeling.
  5. Repeat this process several times.

Ask yourself afterwards: How do you feel now when you think of the unpleasant task? Do you perhaps already feel a certain temptation to do it?

Metaphor of the Week
The Person in Your Mirror

When you finally get what you strive for and become king for a day, look in the mirror and see yourself – and listen to what the person tells you. It is not your mother, not your father, and not your partner who judges you here. The person whose judgment really matters is the person in your mirror.

You must please him, not the others. Because only he remains loyal to you until the end. And you have passed your most difficult test when he says: "I am your friend."

Perhaps you are smart, have achieved a lot, and want to continue on your path. But the person in the mirror says: "You are nothing!" – and you can no longer look him in the face.

You can deceive the world for years if you submit to dishonesty. But in the end, the rewards are tears and pain when you betray the person in the mirror.
