NLP Podcast 96: Provocative coaching with Evi Anderson-Krug

Evi Anderson-Krug has been a trainer since 1996 and has been working as an NLP trainer since 2011. For about a year, Evi has been leading our NLP location Kitzingen / Würzburg. In a seminar with Stephan Landsiedel, Evi first came into contact with Provocative Coaching: As a coachee, she viewed her own problem from a new perspective through this coaching method and laughed a lot about herself. After that, she was so enthusiastic about this method that she completed several further training courses in this area. In this podcast episode, Evi is interviewed by Stephan Landsiedel and gives you exciting and humorous insights into Provocative Coaching.

Provocative Coaching

At first glance, Provocative Coaching sounds like a contradiction, as the coach is supposed to support their coachee appreciatively rather than provoke them. However, in Provocative Coaching, these two points are not mutually exclusive. In this type of coaching, the coachee is humorously pointed out their weaknesses with a lot of wit and appreciation, so that the coachee can laugh about their own weaknesses. There are some fundamental points that you should definitely consider when it comes to Provocative Coaching:

  1. Rapport: Give your coachee a lasting feeling that you are fully present with them and meet them where they are.
  2. Appreciation: Make sure to formulate and express provocative statements or questions lovingly and humorously.
  3. Fun instead of bullying: Laugh with the coachee, not at them.

Of course, Provocative Coaching is not suitable for every coaching topic and not for every coachee. In the complete podcast episode, Evi and Stephan describe some examples and typical provocative phrases where Provocative Coaching can be effectively applied. Evi was already a guest on our podcast about two years ago and presented her own book there.
