NLP Podcast 9: Reframing

“There is nothing either good or bad, but thinking makes it so.” – William Shakespeare

Shakespeare recognized over 400 years ago that the meanings of things and experiences around us depend on ourselves and our perspective. Nothing is inherently good or bad - it is our thoughts that make things good or bad. This means that we decide whether we see something as positive or negative.

Reframing and Positive Thinking

ReframingThe meaning that an event, a sentence, or a behavior has depends on the frame we put it in. Frame is the framework. Re-framing means constructing a new frame and thereby giving things a new meaning. An image can look and feel completely different in a new frame. When a problem is reframed, the same problem gets a new frame and thus a different meaning: a negative problem can become something positive through reframing and positive thinking. The is a very powerful method to make life easier for oneself and others by positively reinterpreting things. In this podcast, a story is first told: This story is about a farmer who is approached by a horse, and none of his neighbors understand what the farmer wants to do with this horse. Do you want to know how the story continues and what reframing has to do with it? Then listen to the complete podcast now! Enjoy listening!
