Annemarie Freitag interviews Carlos Salgado on the question that is often asked by participants: "Can anyone become a coach?"
And finally, the podcast offers an insight into a new Landsiedel event for coaching enthusiasts – stay tuned!
Do you believe that a good coach and trainer is useful in professional football? Just imagine how masterfully we could solve our own challenges if we could occasionally afford a coach?
The term coach is very relevant today. In many contexts, you often hear: "I want to become a coach too." Have you ever thought about it?
What is coaching anyway?
Coaching usually involves an individual who wants to change something more quickly. The coach is someone who accompanies this process. The coachee, that is, the person receiving coaching, knows and can do everything they need, but for some reason feels like they are going in circles and standing in their own way.
Anyone can be a coach at some point in their life, as a leader, partner, parent, or friend. Whether one wants to be a professional coach or is able to guide others to clarity for money can be learned in training and discovered for oneself whether it suits them. Experience shows that not everyone can or wants to do this. Our free e-book: How do I become a coach? can also provide you with more tips.
Here you will find 6 everyday situations where coaching can help:
- Often, it is noticed that in companies, people are in the wrong job or in the wrong department. If everyone did the work that matched their talents – their true calling, then the satisfaction of employees or entrepreneurs or even freelancers would automatically increase, thereby supporting the productivity of companies. The need for coaching has always existed, but coaching has only been increasingly requested for about 10 years.
- At SAP, every employee has the opportunity to take advantage of coaching. And at BASF, there are also coaching programs, which are not called that but referred to as consulting in this context.
- "When we have clarified in couple coaching what the real problem of the couple is, it is almost always the case that the coaching ends quickly because it clicks between the couple and sparks fly again, then I have to say goodbye quickly before something passionate happens," Carlos enthusiastically explains his successes in couple coaching.
- In corporate training or reorganizations, specific NLP knowledge and clever targeted coaching questions help to better deal with disturbances and irritations.
- In dealing with children or parents, or parties in conflict, coaching is also very helpful in calmly and easily resolving problem situations.
- In sports, so that you stay on track and can also achieve top performance.

How do you recognize if you could be a good coach?
If you already experience today that someone constantly wants to know what you think or asks for your advice, then you already have the potential in you to become a good coach.
Three selection criteria for you if you are considering becoming a coach:
Try next time when someone tells you something, to not give any tips for 15 minutes, but just listen and ask questions:
• Did you manage to not give any tips for 15 minutes?
• Did you come up with enough questions in that quarter of an hour?
• After these 15 minutes, do you have a feeling of what you could do to help this person?
If you can already do all of this, congratulations! – You are a natural talent and have potential. If not, no problem. You can learn it. Theoretically, anyone can become a coach. Whether everyone will be happy with it and find fulfillment? No! Whether this is for you, you have to try for yourself. Where can you try this? For example, in our modular coach training or in our new coaching project.
At Landsiedel, there is this new innovative coaching project, internally named "Coaching Days", something completely new. Stay tuned. Listen to the podcast, where Carlos gives us first impressions of what it is about.
