NLP Podcast 66: Successfully Passing on Strategies - Modelling with Ralf Stumpf
In this episode, Ralf Stumpf talks about how to pass on the knowledge of a previously analyzed strategy to someone else. He started with NLP in 1986 to learn about Modelling. Since he didn't learn much about Modelling in any of his NLP trainings, he spent years studying the topic himself and became the leading Modelling expert in the German-speaking world.
He is an NLP trainer according to DVNLP and leads our NLP location in Berlin.
Installation of a Strategy
In Modelling, there are three classic phases: elicitation, utilization, and installation. In the elicitation phase, the strategy itself is first discovered. In the utilization phase, this strategy is shaped into a form to then teach it to someone else in the installation phase. Most NLP practitioners become very good at the first two steps, elicitation and utilization, over time, but usually struggle with installation.
Ralf Stumpf explains three possible ways in which the installation of a strategy can succeed:
1. Storytelling: In this approach, the focus is on the fact that every format has originated from a model at some point. To successfully pass on the strategy behind a format to someone else, you should answer the following questions: What is the story behind the formats? Where do the formats originally come from? What model is behind the format? Once you have answered all these questions, the installation of the strategy becomes much easier.
2. Formats and Exercises: The key to a successful installation of a strategy also lies in the regular application of a format or an exercise. Over time, you change yourself and can soon answer the questions: How is the format structured? What is the purpose of this format? When you are so aware of the format, then the format and the strategy behind it become, in a way, a part of your personality. This allows you to pass on the strategy of this format to others because you have experienced the strategy yourself.
3. Self-Modelling: In this third type, the journey does not start with the format, but with the strategy and the model itself. In this case, the questions are asked directly at the source: How do I create a format that achieves a certain effect? How can I make a format out of myself? By thinking through the strategy yourself, it should be no problem to explain this strategy to another person.
In the complete podcast episode, Ralf Stumpf reveals the role that certain NLP formats play in the installation of a strategy and relates this to both NLP and Modelling.
