Beginnings with The Work of Byron Katie
I got to know The Work through a book recommendation," he says. In doing so, he learned the four questions of The Work, which all serve to question, process, and ultimately turn around stressful thoughts. The Work was developed by Byron Katie: Byron Katie was born in Texas and grew up in Southern California. In the mid-70s, she had serious mental health issues. For two years, she suffered from such severe depression that she could rarely leave her house. After a moment of enlightenment in 1986, Byron Katie developed a system of self-discovery and problem-solving that she called The Work.
The Work – Why do we need the method?
The system of The Work essentially consists of four simple questions that allow us to question our beliefs and thus achieve inner freedom. The four questions are:
1. Is it true? What is the reality?
2. Can you absolutely know that it is true?
3. How do you react to this thought? Or what do you get from thinking that?
4. Who would you be without this thought?
With the help of these questions, the mind is to be quieted in order to enter a deeper consciousness in a kind of meditation. Many new ideas and, above all, new choices arise. In the complete podcast episode, you can experience Ulrich Fischer and Stephan Landsiedel as they work exemplarily on a negative belief using The Work method.
