NLP-Podcast 118: Barrier-Free in the Mind – with Mental Coach Sebastian Wächter

In this podcast episode, Stephan Landsiedel interviews mental coach and keynote speaker Sebastian Wächter from Würzburg. The trained business mathematician worked for years as a stock analyst at a private bank. He is known for leading a successful life despite his paralysis and for advising others as a coach. Being "barrier-free" in the mind, overcoming limits, living independently, and taking responsibility – all of these are themes of his transformative work. At the age of 18, Sebastian Wächter had a serious fall while hiking and broke his neck. Since then, he has been in a wheelchair and cannot move his legs or fingers. His arm muscles are also paralyzed. Over the years, he developed a mindset that enables him to master great challenges and achieve his goals. "Often I fell asleep at night thinking that it would happen again and I could move like I used to. But it never happened! So I accepted the changed circumstances and made the best of it. I first had to accept that there was a barrier for change to happen.", says Sebastian Wächter. In his sport of wheelchair rugby, he made it to the Bundesliga player level. But most importantly: After seven years of consistent training and hard work on himself, Sebastian Wächter has succeeded in leading an independent and self-determined life. Given the severity of his limitations, this was unimaginable according to doctors, but the 30-year-old didn't care. He always kept his goal in sight.

Today, the keynote speaker gives talks and provides companies with insights on how change can lead to progress. He has been awarded multiple times and is among the top 100 speakers of Speakers Excellence. The keynote speaker can be booked for trade fairs, congresses, employee and customer events, as well as conferences. In his workshops, participants have the opportunity to sit in a wheelchair for a day and see the world from a different perspective. "Challenges are there to be mastered. A new perspective from the eyes of a wheelchair user shows that it is indeed possible and that different does not equal bad!", says Sebastian Wächter.
