Resource Circle

The Resource Circle (also Circle of Excellence) is a technique for experimentation. Therefore, for the lesson, the detailed version is here – you will be surprised by the result of this exercise!

Sometimes you experience certain psychological abilities in yourself in a situation, for example, self-confidence in front of a familiar group. Later, you wish that you had the same resource in other situations – for instance, during a presentation in front of colleagues.

Resources are all abilities, possibilities, skills, feelings, and inner moods, that help us to do or refrain from certain things. Someone who does not behave confidently in the presence of their boss may lack a resource – such as inner calm or clarity. Which resource is needed in which situation varies greatly from person to person.

If you know exactly what you need, work with the "Circle of Excellence". If that is not quite clear to you yet, use the method "sending resources". It is a bit more elaborate, but it almost always works. Both methods are suitable not only for problems but also for everyday areas like humor, lightness, or sociability.

The method

1. Flashback:
Recall a specific situation in which you have already experienced the desired resource. It should have taken place at a specific location and at a specific time. It is important that it actually happened – so it is a real experience.

2. Awaken resource:
Recall this situation as if it were happening right now. See the details in your mind's eye, hear the sounds, feel how the resource feels. Where in your body do you feel it – in your stomach, in your chest, in your head? How does it feel – tingling, soft, warm, strong?

3. Intensify resource:
Let the feeling grow stronger. Observe how it changes, becomes larger, spreads or becomes more vivid. Feel how you feel more free inside. Let the sensation become as strong as as you can.

4. Anchor in the circle:
When you feel the resource intensely, imagine a circle on the ground. What does it look like? What color, size, texture does it have? Perhaps you even hear a sound. See, hear, and feel your circle – and experience your resource in it to the fullest.

5. Step out:
Take a step out of the circle. Leave all sensations in the circle. Imagine they stay there like an energy cloud or pillar. Acknowledge them, but stay outside now.

6. Activate problem situation:
Now recall a specific situation in which you need this resource or would have needed it. Experience it as real as possible – with all your senses, as if you were experiencing it right now.

7. Merge:
Step back into the circle with this visualization. Feel how the energy flows through you – tingling, warmth, movement. Let it happen until it subsides on its own. Then step out and conclude the exercise.

That's it! Everything else happens on its own. Observe how the previously difficult situation now changes quite naturally – usually, no repetition is needed.
