What does one need to be successful? Ignorance and self-confidence.

Time-Line (2): Design the future

After the basic idea of the Time-Line was explained in the last episode, this time it’s about an exercise that allows you to anchor your goals in the future. Remember your Time-Line from last time. Where was it? Were you the In-Time type or the Out-of-Time type? If you are in a quiet place, you can also spread the Time-Line on the floor, for example, by marking the past, present, and future with small notes. Then stand in the present and feel how the Time-Line emerges. The past behind you -? the future in front of you..

Exercise for this week
Alluring future

Step 1: Find a goal that you would like to achieve in, for example, five years. Make sure that your goal is well-formed.

Step 2: Visualize the goal and optimize the image using submodalities so that it is very attractive to you.

Step 3: Place the goal image on your timeline. Take the spot where you think it fits best.

Step 4: Go directly into your goal visualization. Stand on that spot. Fly into it and experience in real life how you are just achieving your goal.

Step 5: From this goal point, move backward on the timeline towards the present and experience everything that has happened for you to achieve this goal. Gather the resources and experiences that made the later possible. Isn’t that powerful? You know you have already achieved your goal and wonder how you did it? What steps you took, etc.

Step 6: Finally, you reach the present, look around, and gaze into your future. Do you feel how it beckons you? Enjoy that for a moment. This future belongs to you!

Metaphor of the Week
The three sieves

One day, an acquaintance ran up to the Greek philosopher Socrates.
"Listen, Socrates, I must tell you how your friend.... "
"Hold on," interrupted the philosopher.
"Have you filtered what you want to tell me through three sieves? "
"Three sieves? Which? " asked the other, surprised.
"Yes! Three sieves! The first is the sieve of truth. Have you checked whether what you want to report to me is true? "
"No, I heard it told, and..."
"Well, then you surely checked with the second sieve, the sieve of goodness. Is what you want to tell me - if it is not true - at least good? " The other hesitated.
"No, it actually isn’t. On the contrary....."
"Well," interrupted Socrates. "Then let’s take the third sieve and ask whether it is necessary to tell me what seems to agitate you so much."
"Necessary, not really...."
"So," smiled the wise man, "if what you just wanted to tell me is neither true nor good nor necessary, then let it be buried and burden neither yourself nor me with it."

Book Recommendation

Time-Lining in action. Adventure travels in time
Authors: Bob G. Bodenhamer & L. Michael Hall

Short Description:
Time-Lining in action represents an excellent training – both for basic and for advanced Time-Line formats. These clearly and insightfully presented formats are very effective and can be used to bring about dramatic changes in oneself or in others.

But as with any powerful format, ecology is extremely important here. Perhaps the most exciting part of Time-Lining in action is the contribution to the development and expansion of Time-Lines. The generatively designed book will lead to the development, presentation, and utilization of further formats if we understand how to apply its insights correctly.

The authors show us how we can experience time in new ways. Time-Lining in action – Adventure travels in time familiarizes us with the basic concepts and patterns and then catapults us further on our own time journey. This could be the most important journey you will ever take.
