Quote

“The reasonable person adapts to the world – the unreasonable person adapts the world to themselves – therefore, all progress depends on the unreasonable people.”

Samuel Butler

Sharpening Outer Perception

We begin with the topic of perception, as it is the key to your communication. Our perception determines what influences us and how our ideas of reality are formed. The more open your senses are, the more reactions from your counterpart you can perceive, and the better you can adjust to them.

Exercise for this week

a) Walk with open eyes and ears. Pay attention to every little detail – to plants, to small animals, to other people. Perceive as many details as possible.

b) Pay increased attention to the body language of other people when you talk to them. Observe the arm position, gestures, and facial expressions of others.

c) Try to consciously distinguish between your interpretations and actual observations. For example, you observe someone touching their nose and think that they are lying. Your observation was: They are touching their nose. Your interpretation: Touching the nose means lying. This interpretation may be correct, but it doesn't have to be.

d) Pay close attention to the tone and voice of the speakers in the next talk show on television. Notice the different vocal characteristics.

Metaphor of the Week: The Fox and the Cat

It happened that the cat met Mr. Fox in a forest. Because she thought he was clever and experienced and held in high regard in the world, she spoke to him kindly.
“Good day, dear Mr. Fox, how are you? How's it going? How are you getting by in these expensive times?” The Fox, full of arrogance, looked at the cat from head to toe and took a long time to decide whether he should respond. Finally, he spoke:
“Oh you miserable beard polisher, you motley fool, hungry wretch and mouse hunter, what comes to your mind? You dare to ask how I am? What have you learned? How many arts do you understand?”
“I understand only one,” the cat replied modestly.
“What is that art?” asked the Fox.
“When the dogs are after me, I can jump up a tree and save myself.”
“Is that all?” said the Fox. “I am master of a hundred arts and moreover have a sack full of tricks. You poor creature, come with me, I will teach you how to escape the dogs.”
At that moment, a hunter came along with four dogs. The cat nimbly jumped up a tree and sat at the top, where branches and foliage completely concealed her.
“Open the sack, Mr. Fox, open the sack!” the cat called to him. But the dogs had already caught him and held him fast.
“Oh, Mr. Fox,” cried the cat, “You are stuck with your hundred arts. If you could have crawled up like I did, it wouldn't have been the end for you!”

Book Recommendation

"Do what you love", Author: Andrew Matthews

Short Description:
One of my favorite books and truly written for everyone. It conveys, in simple and clear words, with wit and humor, how to:

  • Get to do work that you enjoy.
  • Learn to accept yourself and others.
  • Find your inner balance.
  • How people think who succeed in life.
  • Why rich people come to money.
  • How losers behave and how to avoid doing the same.

Purpose: A book for the bedside, in which you can read some of the super illustrated pages from time to time and thus fill yourself with positive vibes. Also a great gift.

Here the book can be ordered.
