The Disney Strategy

Here you will find the details of the Disney Strategy. They are meant to give you some suggestions to go through the individual positions. Make sure to do this exercise, even if it takes a bit longer! Have fun with it!

1. Mark three different spots in the room or in your home

If you have enough space, you can also use three different rooms. Decorate the first room with colorful colors, fabrics, flowers, soft cushions, or other objects that allow you to enter a creative, inspiring state. Ideally, this is a hot tub with wonderful music in the background and a recording device that captures your ideas.

The second room is for the realistic planner and should contain all the necessary items: a planner, calendar, address book, calculator, notepad, pen, and lots of information.

In the room of the constructive critic, you should rather place a hard chair and perhaps a pair of glasses through which you can take another critical look at your plan. Go through the individual positions relatively quickly in the next steps to get a first impression of this strategy.

2. Take the position of the dreamer

Disney Strategy

Recall a situation where you were creative and imaginative. Put yourself in that mood. If you find it difficult, think of a person who is often creative and consider how they do it. It is important that you reach a state where it is easy for you to dream and develop creative ideas.

Start now! Develop dreams, crazy ideas, and wild goals! Hold a huge brainstorming session and collect everything on a large poster, a piece of old wallpaper, or a recording.

3. Leave the position of the dreamer

Switch to a brief moment of neutral – set a separator.

4. Take the position of the realistic planner

Disney Strategy

Recall a time when it was easy for you to plan realistically and carefully, or think of someone who does this very well. Choose one of your dreamer's ideas that you want to plan now. Think about this idea:

  • How can you realize this idea?
  • What steps are necessary?
  • In what order must they be done?
  • How long will it take to achieve the goal?
  • What intermediate goals would be conceivable?

5. Leave the position of the planner

Set a separator again.

6. Take on the position of the constructive critic

Disney Strategy

Remember a situation where you were constructive and critical – where you recognized obstacles and objections early on and knew exactly where the strengths and weaknesses of a plan lay. Or think of a person who has this ability. Feel where you can activate this feeling within you now.

  • What is still missing?
  • What has not yet been considered?
  • Can you achieve your goal with this plan?

If it is necessary to make changes or refinements, go through the different positions as often as needed until the critic agrees with the goal and its realization. You can change the order – for example, from the critic to the planner when the basic ideas are clear but not yet ecological, or from the planner to the dreamer when the dream is hard to implement.

The most important thing is to clearly separate the positions so that your inner critics do not immediately stifle the ideas in their infancy. Every idea automatically goes through a "killer phase," and many good ideas fail because of this before they can unfold. With the Walt Disney strategy, you avoid this danger and manage to implement your own fairy tales ecologically and thoughtfully.

As you progress, it is important to go through all three positions repeatedly. You can individually adapt this basic scheme for yourself. If you need motivation in between, return to the position of the dreamer and vividly imagine your success. If you notice that you are getting carried away, let the critic have their say – they will bring you back down to earth. Try to maintain the balance between these two positions.
