The Origin of the Diamond Technique

Under this link, you will learn more today about the emergence of the Diamond Technique and in this context something about the Core State. I wish you a lot of fun with this!

It originated Diamond Technique during an NLP seminar about seven years ago. Rudolf Kaehr, a student of Gotthard Günther and a significant developer of his theory, along with Robert Stein-Holzheim, conducted the so-called Core Transformation in a practice group. This starts with any problem A – consistently asking about the "good intention" of a thing:

  • What is A good for? Or what does A enable? → Answer: B
  • What is B good for? What does B enable? → Answer: C
  • What is C good for? What does C enable? → Answer: D, etc.

Already after a few such repetitions, a "highest" state emerges, which cannot be surpassed – the so-called Core State. Sometimes it is described as "peace", "harmony" or "oneness". Often it is a feeling that is hardly expressible in words. This good feeling, this resource, is then brought back to the original area A, with which one started. The central question is:

To what extent does the Core State enrich and change the initial situation A?

This is where the high therapeutic value of this intervention lies. The original problem A appears in the new light of the Core State resources. However, only the possibilities are asked about. Spontaneously, the idea arose to additionally ask about the "disabling factors" – that is, what is being prevented. This resulted in a double list:

  • What is enabled by this?
  • What is prevented by this?

That was the beginning of the Diamond Technique.

Since then, this method has been tested and used extensively in practice. It has been expanded, further developed, and transferred to other fields and areas. This process is still ongoing.

The classic Core State follows a classic form of thinking. From the perspective of traditional logic, there is a necessity to reach exactly one highest point. Why this is so will be shown by an example:

  • What is the overarching term for car? → vehicle
  • What is the overarching term for vehicle? → means of transport
  • What is the overarching term for means of transport? → thing
  • What is the overarching term for thing? → something at all
  • What is the overarching term for something at all? → ???

At some point, the questioning stops – one arrives at exactly one point. A pyramid is formed, which is wide at the bottom and culminates in a single peak, no matter how diverse the paths to it may be. Even if we had started with a "teapot", we would have ended up at the same point "something at all".

But does human life also have only one highest "peak"? Is there only one good of the good, that is, the absolutely best? If that were the case, life would consist of reaching this core state – and then maintaining it at all costs.

From the perspective of a multi-valued logic, however, human life has many different peaks – not just a single one. This thought was taken into account by Rudolf Kaehr, Robert Stein-Holzheim, and others by further developing the technique Core transformation "multi-valued". That was the beginning of the Diamond Technique.

In the next additional lesson, you will learn more about the more philosophical aspects of the Diamond.
