NLP and esotericism
A special intention of NLP is that it aims to contribute to the achievement of inner balance and a fulfilling life. This aspect has created a bridge between NLP and esotericism, where it has also found resonance due to self-help and self-improvement techniques. The result is that some outsiders mistakenly consider NLP to be a variant of esotericism.
NLP and esotericism are indeed not in contradiction to each other, as NLP is not tied to a specific worldview: Accordingly, it allows room for other interpretations that are more spiritual in nature. This flexibility is a strength of NLP – it enables reaching many people for whom NLP is a benefit in their lives. So: Just as NLP can appeal to believers of various faiths as well as agnostics or atheists, NLP and esotericism are not fundamentally incompatible.
On the other hand, this does not mean that NLP and esotericism belong together and that one cannot be separated from the other. NLP practitioners can be found not only among esotericists but also among rationally inclined individuals. Not only the cliché of the meditating psychoanalyst uses NLP, but also business people and engineers. The benefits of NLP are not limited to self-discovery and self-actualization, but also help in everyday and work life.
