NLP and Personal Development
With a few things, it is also possible with NLP – finding an appropriate way to deal with one's own character flaws is harder than with many other issues. Many people dislike certain traits about themselves, some even reject them for the sake of their social environment. And yet, they find it exceedingly difficult to change them. "I am just like this," "at my age, one doesn't change anymore," or "others just have to accept me as I am" – many people mistakenly believe that their personal development has reached its final stage at a certain point. They will accept that one can expand one's knowledge, change one's appearance, perhaps even alter one's behavioral patterns – but to influence one's own personality? After all, it is what defines who we are – and how could we be anyone other than the person we have always been?
As compelling as this argument may seem at first glance, it is hasty to accept it without further consideration. It would be fatal to succumb to entrenched habits because one believes they cannot change anything anymore; NLP can be a great help in promoting one's personal development.
A person's personal development primarily occurs during childhood and is shaped by experiences; particularly significant events leave massive impressions. However, even if personality is no longer as malleable later in life as it is in the early stages, these mechanisms still function even in advanced age: traumas, upheavals, profound changes, all of them can leave their marks on a person's personal development – just like all the individuals who have become completely different people as a result of endured tragedies.
But one can also take the opposite route with NLP and advance one's personal development on a completely different path. With the help of NLP, one can get to know oneself better and identify one's motives, strengths, and weaknesses. Once one has clearly determined what one wants to achieve in life and which things and people are important to one, one can bring these things into balance and live in happiness and joy with oneself and others, realizing fulfillment both professionally and personally.
