NLP and Motivation

Motivation is the driving force that moves people to pursue and achieve goals. NLP and motivation go hand in hand, as it is essentially assumed to be the foundation for working with NLP: How and in which fields an NLP practitioner is talented or what education they have is very variable on one hand, but on the other hand is already predetermined for each individual person. However, motivation, precisely because it does not represent an unchangeable constant, is one of the most important (because directly influenceable) traits that NLP can utilize. NLP and motivation are interdependent; in principle, motivation is also just applied neurolinguistic programming: one convinces oneself that one values a certain thing so much that one is willing to make special efforts to achieve it – even in NLP. And motivation, conversely, is also the prerequisite for making progress through neurolinguistic programming. Only through it does the prospect of far-reaching changes that NLP promises unleash its power.

In fact, NLP and motivation, and related to that, application and perseverance, are the fundamental factors in this success. They are even more important than the personal starting conditions in life: Those who believe in themselves and manage to get back on their feet repeatedly have far better chances than someone with more talent but less stamina.

For this reason, the ability to link NLP and motivation has such significance and is accordingly promoted. NLP and motivation are often brought together to create synergies that the practitioner can utilize – and this goes far beyond a mere collection of motivational strategies. Thus, a foundation of NLP is Modeling, ultimately the attempt to motivate through the presentation of positively influential role models for imitation – just as the reproduction of their biographies, in which every failure is documented, simultaneously increases frustration tolerance. The Reframing questions discourage interpretations of past events; the constant emphasis on one's own potential promotes a positive view of one's own possibilities. In the end, for many who work with NLP, their own ability to inspire and motivate themselves to achieve the goals they set for themselves, alongside their plan, is the most important capital they have.
